Meierholda lidojums (Meyerhold’s Flight, 2018) is the graduation film of then emerging director Matīss Kaža, created at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. This short fiction film is crafted as a cinematic collage in the form of a dream, reflecting on the life of Russian avant-garde theatre director Vsevolod Meyerhold. Set against the backdrop of revolution and upheaval, it portrays the artist’s inner struggle with himself and the oppressive forces surrounding him. Meyerhold is played by acclaimed actor Kaspars Znotiņš of the New Riga Theatre.

As part of the production, I was the craftsman behind the scenography scale model featured within the film’s story. I also built the small cube placed on the table and the large cube that later appears spinning in the air—both serving as key symbolic elements in the film’s visual language.
