Madarcade – Red Bull Event with Madars Apse
I built several obstacles for Madarcade, a Red Bull event hosted by Madars Apse. Ended up participating too—and took second place.
This all happened during the pandemic, so we had to make the event fully isolated—set up on the rooftop of a shopping mall car park. No live crowd, but the whole thing was broadcast on TV, which gave it a surreal, cinematic kind of energy.
The build process was exhausting. At the time, we were just getting started with Isolator, our new indoor skate spot, which had zero obstacles. We took on the project with minimal pay, putting most of the budget toward materials.
I brought in a few skaters to help, but most were pretty relaxed about it—so I ended up putting in long hours to make sure everything got done in time. Despite the stress, I’m proud of the result and glad I could be part of both the event and the early shaping of Isolator.
Eventually, we brought the obstacles back after the event. The large blue quarter pipe still stands as one of the main features of the park.
